When we speak of electric car, we refer not only to the vehicle, but also to a real phenomenon that is interesting the world panorama for some years. In fact, more and more cars are sold, and according to predictions, in the near future these numbers are destined to increase even more
The numbers of 2017
In the last year, in 2017, really interesting numbers were registered that evidenced the strong expansion of the electric car market.
In fact, just think that about 1.3 millions vehicles, including hybrids and fully electrics, that have marked a profound change in the global market.
This means 1% of the world’s vehicles, whose sale has seen an increase of 58% compared to 2016.
According to the development of the market, it is predicted that by 2030, at least 8 out of 10 new cars will be electric.
As for the individual markets, China is the leader of the sector, with really amazing numbers. Only in the past year were registered 777.000 new registrations, for a total of 53% more than the previous year.
The United States continues in neutral, where 200.000 new cars were registered, for a discrete 23% more than 2016.
Europe’s performance is also significant. In the countries of the European Union, about 287.000 electric cars were registered for a positive + 38.7% compared to 2016.
And in Italy? Our country has registered in 2017 the sale of 4.827 electric cars, a number that is more than double that of last year, although it is still far from the countries of other countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom.
Charge and distribution network
As it is, along with the growth of electric car sales, there is also an increase in distribution networks.
In fact, at the end of 2016, 1,45 millions recharging points were registered worldwide, with a considerable increase compared to the 800.000 points in 2015 and the simply 20.000 in 2010
This growth was undoubtedly favored by the diffusion of private charge columns to the detriment of the public. We speak of a miserable 13% in relation to public ones, which are located mainly in China by 31%, the United States by 17%, Norway by 12% and in Sweden by 10%.
For the time being in Europe around 70.000 columns were assigned, although significant increases are expected that will lead to a capillary network throughout the European Union.
In Italy we speak of approximately 1.750 columns, a number still very low but that promises to grow rapidly.
And the future?
As already anticipated, the future of the electric car seems to be very prosperous. The numbers speak clearly and allow us to make long-term forecasts.
In fact, by 2030 the markets will be literally invaded by electric cars with around 164 million active circulating units.
In the next two years, that is to say in 2020, the growth will continue slowly until to reach around 7 million vehicles.
Between 2020 and 2025 there will be a first acceleration with the arrival of around 40 millions, but it will be in the five years between 2025 and 2030 that the real growth will take place until it reaches the 164 millions vehicles mentioned above.
